Council Member Jarvis Johnson’s Trouble with the Law

Council Member Jarvis Johnson was pulled over on Wednesday night at 9:40 PM for refusing to stop his vehicle immediately when an officer tried to pull him over (see the article here).

He is now charged with a felony and was released on a $2,000 bond.  Officer Steven Running attempted to pull CM Johnson over after allegedly speeding.  Although it was not a high-speed pursuit, Officer Running pursued CM Johnson for five or six blocks for two to three minutes.  A woman riding with CM Johnson has been identified as a 27-year-old council aide who was released.  Here is an excerpt from CM Johnson’s statement (from

‘”Last night was an unfortunate situation where the officer erroneously surmised that I was speeding and fled his warning a claim I vehemently deny. At no point did I drive over 25 mph, run stop signs, or maneuver around any vehicle. I acted in no way that would give any indication that I was attempting to flee or evade apprehension.”‘  He also said that he hopes that “‘last night’s incident was not in response to my constant communication with the police in requesting an end to ‘speed traps’ in the area, and an increase of patrol.”‘

This is a bold statement.  If Officer Running has any evidence at all (video, radar, etc.), this is going to be really bad for CM Johnson.  Someone has to be lying here because Officer Running’s and CM Johnson’s stories can’t both be right, and it is only a matter of time before the lie comes out.
