I said several times during the campaign when I ran for city council in 2009 that we need a better way to handle permits because it is difficult to figure out what permits you need and where to go to get them. Finally the City of Houston is making it easier on businesses trying to get their permits.
In June people applying for permits can come to one building, get all their permits, and then pay at the cash register at the end. They are expecting nearly half a million transactions a year. We need to make it easier on people who want to open businesses here in Houston so we can keep our unemployment numbers low. Fewer businesses mean fewer jobs. Fewer jobs mean less money coming in to the City, so it is nice to see them making it easier for new businesses.
